Tributes continue to pour in for Soldier Jack Mitchell - a gunner in the 32 Regiment Royal Artillery based at Larkhill army base in Wiltshire who died after an alleged nightclub assault on Sunday morning.

Gunner Jack Mitchell died as a result of his injuries and officers arrested a 28-year-old man on suspicion of murder. Jack's mother Kate Mitchell wrote:

"As a mother who today lost a most precious gift through a completely senseless act can I please ask all mothers to hold their children a little bit tighter tonight. "My son was the kindest most gentlest man you could ever meet. My heart is broken, but if one thing can come out of Jack's death, that will save any other parents from this most excruciating pain, can it be that, before you throw that punch, stop and think what the consequences could be. "I am so proud of my son and what he achieved. He had his whole life to look forward to. "Me his Dad, his brother and his sister's, will miss him every single day."

Eyewitnesses at the scene said a fight between two men broke out on the top floor of the club. Another man was seen being dragged from the club by security shortly after. Bouncers and police officers then blocked off all exits from the building.

Detective Inspector Jim Taylor said:

"The nightclub was very busy at the time of the assault, which occurred in the upstairs bar of the premises. It is likely that a number of people would have witnessed the incident and I am keen to hear from anyone who has information which can help us with our inquiries."

Anyone with information is asked to contact the force on 101, quoting incident 39 of February 5th.
