Support Armed Forces Day 2020 from your Home.

Did you know that Saturday, June 27th 2020, is 'Armed Forces Day'? The special day aims to raise public awareness of the contribution made to our country by those brave men and women who serve in the UK forces. Perhaps your family member/members have previously served in the military, or they might be currently serving – Armed Forces Day is for them. Even if you haven’t got any personal military connections, we should all give some consideration towards the valuable contribution of the Armed Forces community: from veterans to serving troops, including cadets and service families.

Armed Forces Day Events

Due to COVID 19 this years Armed Forces Day National Event hosted by Scarborough Borough Council has been cancelled.

Cllr Tony Randerson, cabinet member with responsibility for the delivery of the event said:

“While I am sure you will be as disappointed as we are, you will understand the reason why this decision has been taken and for the need for the services to be focusing their attentions on the current exceptional issues facing the country.

"We’d like to thank everyone who has been involved in working towards the event so far and ask for patience while we work with the Ministry of Defence to consider future options.

"In the meantime, I wish you all well over this difficult period.”

Other events may be affected by COVID-19. Please contact the individual event organisers in your area for further details.

Why?

Showing support for the Armed Forces provides a much-valued morale boost for the troops and their families. You can find out more about what they are doing at home and around the world by visiting the official sites of the Royal Navy, British Army and the Royal Air Force.

Who?

The UK Armed Forces defend the UK and its interests. They are busy working around the world, promoting peace, delivering aid, tackling drug smugglers, providing security and fighting terrorism.

Veterans A veteran is anyone who has served in the HM Armed Forces at any time (including National Servicemen, Regulars and Reserves). Armed Forces Day celebrates their continued role within the military community.

Reservists Reservists give up their spare time to serve in the Reserve Forces, balancing their civilian life with a military career to ensure that should their country require them, they would be ready to serve.

Cadets The Cadet Forces (Sea Cadets, Army Cadet Force, Air Training Corps and the Combined Cadet Force) currently support young people in more than 3,000 locations across the UK. Cadets learn valuable life and career building skills as well as gaining vocational qualifications.

Families Our Armed Forces couldn’t do their job without the incredible support of their family and friends.

Charities Although Armed Forces Day is not a charitable event, the Armed Forces have the support of several UK charities and many local events will offer opportunities to support them.

Membership fees have been waived since March at the start of the lock-down period to support military veterans, forces friends and loved ones. We have extended this further to continue to be free until 12th July 2020, at which point membership fees will be re-introduced.If you’re looking for your old comrades from the services this is the place to be.
