Sheffield to host UK Invictus Games Trials
Over a month ago
Following the success of the Invictus Games in Sydney 2018 and previous Games in Toronto, Florida and London, the UK partnership, consisting of Help for Heroes, the Ministry of Defence and The Royal British Legion will be delivering a series of events and activities in Sheffield in July 2019.
The event in Sheffield will include Team UK’s Trials for the next Invictus Games in The Hague in May 2020, and provide opportunities for up to 500 individuals and their families to use the power of sport, teamwork and competition to significantly accelerate their recovery.
The programme will provide opportunities for individuals to engage with sport at all levels.
This celebration of sport will culminate in the Team UK Invictus Games Trials in Sheffield from 22nd to 26th July 2019, playing host to:
• a qualifying event for selection for the Invictus Games 2020. All athletes who wish to be considered for the Games in 2020 must attend the Trials.
• the UK national championship for wounded, injured and sick service personnel and veterans. Therefore, this event is also suitable for those who wish to compete in adaptive sport but have no wish to be selected for the Invictus Games in 2020. The event will include archery, athletics, indoor rowing, powerlifting, road cycling on a closed road circuit, swimming, sitting volleyball, wheelchair basketball and wheelchair rugby at world-class venues in Sheffield.
The Join Team UK gateway is now open for 2019 and 2020. You must Join Team UK by 9th March 2019 to be considered for later stages.
