Hi Dominic Have been trying to talk to you on the new Site Announcements but it wont let me. It just isn't working, is it? Hope you realise that it is virtually impossible to log in to a selected topic and to find the latest thread. I have tried this and everything comes up with stuff that was written 5 and even 10 years ago. Also can't just pop in as we always have done to see if there is a response to what we have sent. I am very disappointed in this re-vamp of the Forum and I know I am not alone. What do you intend to do about it? Regards; Kim

Revamp? A dog's dinner has more appeal. What have you done except make a dreadful mess. Huge voids in every post. A revamp for me would include removing all the dead registrants and enforcing all existing and future registrants to enter real names, their units/regiments, years served and locations served. Very primitive a shell without. Please at least, revert to 'as before'. Thank you.

Hi Rosemary, Obviously we get many different opinons on how to 'improve' the site and try and create a middle-ground, but of course can't please everyone.
Perhaps you could help by explaining your comments 'impossible to log in to a selected topic and to find the latest thread'?
Not sure if you actually meant you're having to 'log-in' or the log-in bit is a red herring?
You can certainly see if ther's a response to your recent posts by highlighting 'Forum' in the main emnu then choosing 'My Subscriptions'.

I don't remember saying we had performed a 'revamp'? We have simply changed the forum into a more usable and up to date format.
There are lots of tools that come with this forum under the main menu header that weren't within the old format.
Perhaps you could explain in a bit more details the issues you're having.
Can you explain what you mean by 'all the dead registrants' and how you see us identifying them?
Also please explain how we know what a 'real name' is? I apprecviate if you're looking at a member, it may not look like a real name, but how can we a) know that 100% b) ensure over 1,000,000 members are potentially corrected. We don;t have the resources to literally go through them one by one.
Also, it would really help if you can let us know how this causes you issues.
The previous forum is literally a design change, that's all. Most of your comments have nothing to do with what we have just changed, so reverting it will make no difference other than your remark about voids in posts.
We're here to help and will try and make this work for everyone if you can give us enough useful info,

Hello Dominic Thank you for your response. I think that "log-in" wasn't the correct terminology - I meant "Select" or "Click-on" (take your pick !) . I have found it virtually impossible to get into a selected topic and for it to bring up the latest thread. If I hesitate for a moment it takes me back to something that was written years ago - for example I ventured into "I've Been Wondering" and found I was reading a discussion about bus passes in 2015 (not a problem with the subject of course but there appeared to be no way of getting to The End!).
You talk about 'improvements' but I'm not sure this is one - surely you should be trying to please the majority !!
I have today trawled though lots of Topics and cannot find any new posts from anyone for the last couple of days - this is extremely unusual especially finding nothing from a particular member that we generally hear from every day. The Forum has fallen silent - doesn't this tell you something ?? ps - are you aware that Follow on Songs (and I quote) isn't working at the moment?? !!!!! edited by rosemary(kim)dimond on 11/02/2021 edited by rosemary(kim)dimond on 11/02/2021

Hi Rosemary, I see what you're saying reading the ordering, although this is how almost all forums work. However we could add a way of allowing members to re-order the forum chronologically if you think that will be well received.
I dont understand what you mean 'I have found it virtually impossible to get into a selected topic and for it to bring up the latest thread. If I hesitate for a moment it takes me back to something that was written years ago' - perhaps you can explain that further. When we create development jobs, if there's a bug we literally tell the developers how to recreate the issue i.e. 1. go to Forces Reunited 2. click on x,y,z 3. do this etc. etc. This way they can see it for themselves, otherwise one can't possibly know how you've seeing what you're seeing.
When you say you currently can't get to the latest post, all you have to do is go into any thread, scroll to the bottom, you will see the page numbers in the middle bottom of the page 1,2,3,4...X - simply click on the last number which is the last page.
Everything takes time to get used to, and we used to get constant complaints about the old forum too. This isn't just a design change, it's much more about the underlying tech which is vastly superior. Of course we always try to please the majority, who's to say this isn;t pleasing the majority
Follow on song titles worked perfectly when I went into it. I have posted on that thread 2 minutes ago.

Thanks again Dominic
Have seen your 'test' message on Song Titles and I have now been able to post on there, you must have cleared the problem !! Will keep trying to sort other things out as I go along.

Hi Dominic Thought you should know that I have received two separate PMs - one saying they have been unable to make contact with you and the other saying that you are not responding and feels there is no place for them on the new forum. Please don't ask me for further details as I don't have them and I can't, of course, divulge identities. FR is not in a good place right now!

Rosemary, I have not received any direct messages from FR members, other than one within an hour of the new forum being put up which I've replied to and that was only a small comment they made, or did you mean those messages were sent to our support team?
When you say 'FR is not in a good place right now' where there any issues I am unaware of?
As far as I am aware the main issue is that posts are reverse chronological, which is in dev to give options. You're the only person I've heard from who doesn't actually like this.
No one else has sent me anyting directly, or made any comments in the forum suggesting they don't like it or can't use it.
We can only change things if people let us know what they'd like changing.

Dominic I obviously have no idea how many messages have been sent to your Support team. As I have already told you, there are 2 Members that I know of who say they have been unable to contact you directly - reason unknown!!
When I say that 'FR is not in a good place right now' it seems that several Members are upset to the point that they are leaving - this is possibly due to the way that the new arrangement was dumped on us without any warning (7 at the moment have voiced such intentions to me). Why they have chosen not to tell you directly is anyone's guess - I am probably being used as a global 'Messenger' at the moment.
That's it for today - oh! except to ask why, when I managed to post on Song Titles, did it repeat itself 5 times - waste of space !!
