I have just read in the newspaper that as a national serviceman before 2960 I may be entitled to some pension. Is this so?

Hi Tony, If you just type RAF Pensions in your browser.it will give you no end of choices, some with freephone numbers. I hope that this helps. Regards Roy

Prior to 1975 there was no armed services pension*, there were no preserved pensions in any occupation until the introduction of the social security act of 1973. The first armed forces pension was the 'armed forces pension scheme 1975' (AFPS75), this ran until 2005 when it was replaced by the AFPS05. https://www.ctp.org.uk/assets/document/400281
*There was however a pension if you served a full 22 years (OR's) or 16 years (Officer) prior to June 1975, the 1975 reform gave an index linked pension for all those over the age of 26 and dropped the time served limit to 6 years, it dropped to 2 years and no age limit in 1988.
So, if you, like my father and his brothers just did NS for 18 months -2 years then none of that earned a pension sadly.
