I served in the RN hospital ship H.M.H.S. Maine during the Korean War, and helped to evacuate wounded to Japan and Hong Kong. Among those we brought out was the heroic Bill Speakman V.C. . I was proud to have met this fantastic man.

We used to replenish our medical supplies at the British Commonwealth General Hospital in Kure, Ray. I remember it was full of lovely Army nurses. They obviously did a good job of patching you up.

While you were in Kure, Ray, did you ever get a trip across to the island Miyajima? It was one of the most magical places I have ever been.
