The medal is currently planned to be awarded to all serving members of the armed and civil services who have complete 5 years service. Given that most retired members have provided service to Her Majesty in the last 60 years in a variety of locations and conflicts it seems illogical that we are being ignored. A PCSO having done 5 years on the beat qualifies whilst a long service member of the armed forces who might have seen service in the Falklands, Bosnia and Iraq will be ignored. Retired and serving members (who had not served 5 years) did not receive either the silver or golden anniversary medals. Surely on this unique occasion an exception could be made.

What defines a Veteran? Watched Young Soldiers. Jubilee Medal for Veterans. Can a veteran be clasified as someone who has joined, didnt complete training, for what ever reason; are these Veterans?

I joined the Army in 1974 and left in 1993.
I missed the Silver Jubilee medal as I hadnt complete 5years service.
I wasnt in the Army for the Golden Jubillee so didnt qualify for that one.
I rejoined in 2005, served 6 years and got out 3 months before the medal is issued.
Missed all of three of them (ha,ha). Couldnt make it up could you.

I served in the Royal Engineers from 1970 to 1980 and think that we should be able to purchase the silver jubilee medal and wear it with pride and receive the Diamond jubilee medal as a matter of course. Bill Foley
