Two Weeks to Go!
Well, my friends, my subscription to FR runs out in 2 weeks time on the 9th December and I do not know if I shall be bothering to renew it. As you are all aware , this site is not what it used to be since all the changes that were made a year or so back. Despite many promises, none of the facilities which used to exist have been restored and quite frankly the site has become somewhat boring.
I registered with the new site which Terry Carey has mentioned a week or so back and am enjoying it enormously. It has a wealth of facilities and is very welcoming. It is run by two ex-FR chaps, Chris Gadsden and Murray Whyte, who you may remember.
There are a number of people here with whom I would like to keep in touch. So if you would like to keep in touch with me please send me a PM while I am still able to receive them, and let me know your e-mail and/or your phone number.
I shall keep popping in to see what you are all up to but, of course, if I do not renew my subs, I will not be able to post or message you.
Amazingly, I realise that I have been on FR since 2007, the year that my son, Duncan went off on his first tour in Afghanistan. How time flies!!
During that time I have shared many things with you, good times and bad times. I have amused or bored you with tales of what my Darling Daisy got up to and you shared with me the great sadness of her loss 18 months ago. Now you have met my new baby and the joy of my life, Barney, who hopefully, I will be sharing many years of love and fun with.

Hi Ray,
The site that Terry, J.D., and myself have joined is called 'The Over Fifties Forum'. It is run by Chris Gadsden (ex RAF and FR) and Murray Whyte (ex Army and FR).
It has all the facilities that FR used to have before all the disastrous changes plus many, many more, is extremely warm and welcoming and, what is more, it's free!

I'll give it a whirl, it sounds just the job. I don't know if you have ever used Forces War Records on this site, but I'm not too impressed. I gave that the heave ho.
Thanks for the info, I'll get right into the new site.

Hi Kim,
Have you been over to have a look at TOFF yet? I read what Len said about waiting until his subs were reduced to £5. If FR offer me a much reduced rate I might consider staying but I think that £14-99p is far too much for the facilities we have been left with. x

Hi Pamela - haven't had a look at TOFF yet but I will do in due course. When I renewed my subs in June I was charged £8.95 for 12 months - do FR just pluck these numbers out of the air ?? x
Probably. Kim!
I'll see what happens when my subs become due. There might be a 'Special Offer' made.

Don't think I'm really a 'forum' sort of guy, but took a look at the TOFF site and expressed the view that I can't see the point of a site where the only common interest is that members are over fifty years old! Chris was kind enough to write and explain their outlook and I replied that I might join one day, but simply can't imagine why a stranger would be interested in the bleatings of any silly old duffer, who can barely get on-line! Cheers, Syd.

I have to agree with you about a site where the only common factor is age !!! Take care my friend, Kim x
Kim I joined here in 2005 and found my neice in that year I also found a billet mate who was next bed to me . I used to enjoy the chat rooms and some of those people are still in touch on other sites. I've seen a lot of people join and leave for varying reasons but I have continued to keep Rhymes off the Cuff going which is one way of sharing my work and giving people a chance to read My service was R A F 1952/54 so not much chnce of finding any more of my old colleagues although I get near on F/b at times. Thank for you encouragement over the years and I trust you and others will remain.
Hi Shrubby, your Rhymes off the Cuff always give me so much pleasure and I hope you will always keep them going. Take care, Kim x
Hi Everyone, Being a fairly recent recruit to this website (its taken me 50+ years to join - I know, - it hasn't been going that long). Anyway, I thought I might try to
re-connect with some of my friends and old comrades from those best years of my life (when I was young and vibrant). Although I have spotted a couple of names that I know well, I'm not sure they're still active on the site and by what I've read the site is not the site it was a few years ago. But being an inveterate optimist, I keep hoping I might get a pleasant surprise one day. It must be a bit dispiriting though when members don't get responses to their posts and that seems to be what happens quite a lot, or am I wrong?

Hi Kim, Thanks for the reply. It was a tongue in cheek post, but there seems to be quite a few recent past posts that don't seem to have ellicited much of a response,
so I thought I'll throw a stone in the pond and see if there were any ripples.
Cheers
