Looking for RAF Sharjah Comcen Personnel 1963/64
Robbie Robertson, Ginger Harwood, Alex Mackenzie, Geordie Giles, Johnny Flood and my good self. Hope this helps.
I will repeat what I have just told Ginge (Ian).
The reason for all this was because a guy called Colin Pomeroy put a Notice in the AIR MAIL mag asking for pictures of former RAF Sharjah (closed 1971), so I sent him some. It transpires he is ex RAF and is an author of various publications (google him) Well he has come back to me and said he is going to use some of the photos but wanted names on the one of 4 of us (see profile photos). So typical, old age etc sets in and my mind goes blank...what do I do, so you have all come to the rescue.
Hope you dont mind me letting him know, if so tell me before I tell him. I will get around to all when the flack dies down... Regards Barney
I was at Sharjah with C Squadron 9th/12th Royal Lancers in 1962/63.
After having an accident while driving a Ferret Scout Car on the Omex patrol down in Muscat I was flown back to RAF Sharjah in a Twin Pioneer and while recuperating I worked in the RAF Officers mess.
I can't remember any names but remembering getting well with the RAF guys.
I did enjoy my stint there, but was glad to get away to some civilisation and a DRY Naafi.
I got my dates wrong it was 1962/63 when I was in Sharjah not 63/64, We arrived in September 1962 and left in March 1963 to go to Aden so I was not there when the Twin Pioneer crashed in April in which I think two 9th/12th Lancers died, Major Lewis and Tpr Brierley.
I wonder if that was the twin pioneer that I flew in.
I hope you are keeping safe during this virus crisis.
We have been clear of it here in Guernsey for 77 days now.
