Where do I start - from sketchy memories and a few photos we are trying to search for information on my late father's Navy (Royal or merchant ???) career. It appears to cover during and post war periods.. We have an official group photo where he looks very young that we estimate might be around 1941/1942 and the hats of others possibly have EMS on the band (his is not visible) other than that he always said whilst everyone was celebrating VE day he was still in the Far East and that VJ day was more important to him. We have photos of him putting him in Hong Kong and Sydney (photography address on back of photos) this one is in full uniform but again no visible hat band, and are sure he served on the HMS Constance that was not commissioned until after the war. It did however sail to Hong Kong but no mention on its history of Australia. Without a service number I am coming to a dead end as none of the free services come up with any matches. His name was Francis Rich (known as Frank) and he was born in 1925 although rumour was he may have lied about this on joining up. Any help greatfully received
I have a similar problem, looking for my fathers service records, but unfortunately do not know his service number, or any other details, and no one who can give me a clue, other than he 'may have' been a Paratrooper, and 'may have' been in the Royal Engineers. Seems you can't get anywhere without a service number.
