Respect
What is really sad, Steve, is that so many people don't know the meaning of the word 'respect' !!!!
Maybe that's because respect has to be earned, some seem to think it's an automatic right!

it was a sad day when national service was fazed out,the young of today should be made to serve in the forces ,then they would know about respecting ex service and serving personal,i wear a cap with big writing on it,HELP FOR HEROES, I like to rub it in there faces, and I fly the union jack flag in my garden for all to see,im proud of all ex service personal and of serving troops.
I left the RN for the USA 40yrs ago and you are right about respect. I am constantly thanked for my service by Americans even though I served another country. Some big box stores and some restaurants even give me a 10% discount. I tell them I wasn't in the USA military and they say that doesn't matter you are an ally.
