RAF 123 SU (Habbaniya & Nicosia)
123 SU was in Habbaniya at the time of the 1958 Iraqi coup and ironically was only in Nicosia in transit for a few weeks as they awaited demob. The bombing occurred about 3 weeks before the demob date. My Dad can recall a colleague Peter Carey from that time and another, Arthur Batty. I have sent out a few notes on this site and appreciate we are talking over 60 years ago so some folks will have sadly passed. If anyone has any direct connection to this event or can assist with connecting anyone up from the info above please let me know. I am aware of an RAF Habbaniya Society (which has an annual meeting) and I am looking to get my father to the 2019 meet around October. Thanks so far.
(I served RAF Jan 1981 - July 1986 as an airframe fitter on the MKII Nimrod out of RAF Kinloss).

I served in Cyprus 1957 to 1959 in The Royal Horse Guards
Since 2015 I have been searching for the the families of the 372 men who died in The 1955 to 1959 Emergency. My reason is to let their family know that their loved one has not been forgotten by thire comrades and that we now have two memorials in memory of the 372 men who died . One in Kyrenia Cyprus and the other in The National Memorial Arboretum in Staffordshire. Also to let the family know that they are entitled to receive The Elizabeth Cross. I was instrumental in Jeff'f family receiving The Elizabeth Cross. I have contact with 69 RAF Cyprus Veterans. If you Google Les Smith Cyprus Veteran you will be able to read a lot about my project.
