Diamond Jubilee Medal
Forum thread for campaign Diamond Jubilee Medal
“ This medal should be awarded to current and PAST serving service members ”
Too difficult to do the work to ensure that all those who have served HM the Queen in excess of 5 years and now retired. OMG, and the expense.....it is a sad fact that in all probability this will not happen. As for a PCSO getting it, it makes me very angry...??????
Silver jubilee medal was only given to a few whilst serving. It appeared to be a lucky dip at the time. Although I have seen a couple of people wearing them that I suspect were bought from a medal catalog.
Guard ship HMS Birmingham 1977 fleet review. Never saw a medal but we all thought we were getting one.
After serving 25 years during all of the Jubilees etc, we should ALL have qualified for these and many more awards. We, after all volunteered to serve OUR country.
Was denied a silver jubilee medal( lucky dip??) Campaign medal during Turk invasion of Cyprus (again lucky dip)expense?? Served 1971___1993 RAF.. Don,t expect anything but good luck to campaign!!Salute you
You definitely got my vote!! I was in for the silver jubilee and got nowt!!
Joined in 1971---1993. Didn,t get a silver jubilee medal ?? Quote not enough hardship in Cyprus after Turkey invaded????
Joined RN in 1963 and did 25 years man and boy. All service people should receive ALL of the Queens medals if they were serving. Not just a select few. Cost again?? We never considered the cost when we signed up.
I agree all serving and vets should be given all queens medals we served the Queen and country without question. I personally served in many conflicts and have medals but the Queens medals to me would mean a personal big thank you from the Queen and government sad day when non service personal get them MPs Judges Poets Musicians etc
I guess I this country they don,t give you any thing I done 3years in Malaya from 1949 to 1952 although I got theG S M & clasp Malaya medal you had to ask for it it’s a wonder they get any one to go into the service the they are treated when they come out
\w.
Well I guess unless they put your name on them this medals what good are they? Because so many after the war have no names on them &
End up in junk shops

Those of us who have served through Queen Elizabeth 11 reign should receive any of the medals produced for any of the anniversaries.
I have the memories of serving in several conflict areas from Aden through Singapore N Ireland all in the times when the build up too the dates when they decided the qualifying periods would start,Aden up country for many months being mortared and shots fired into the camp, then toured 3 days before the start of the qualifying time,Singapore near the end when they had left the federation but still we had QRA scrambles from Tengah with fully armed javs doing interceptions yet across the causeway a few miles away they were entitled to a medal,Cyorus the same just toured 1 day before the dates kicked in.Still i have wonderful memories of friends and times I wouldn’t change them for a dozen bits of metal to sit in a drawer.
Served during HM Silver Jubilee and never received that medal, apparently too costly to award us the medal, my Sqn got 1 medal. I served as a police officer during HM golden jubilee, and was tripping over the boxes of medals delivered to our office
You have my vote mate. Was at detention officer with the police when the diamond jubilee medal was handed out. Annoyed me that PCSO and prison officers got but we didn't. Did all they did and more but because the police think that police staff are second class citizens we got nothing. Should have gone to all veterans as a thank you for serving.
Served total 40 years no jubilee medals have come my way.
I served 23 years in the forces and like those who were around in 1977 never received the silver jubilee as it went to the chosen few. There should be a campaign to force the government to allow ex-servicemen who have been a member of the armed forces to wear all three commutative medals, the cost for producing the medals could be passed onto the individuals who wish to wear them with pride. If the government does not wish to produce the medals then certificates could be provided, authorising recipients to purchase and wear the medals, What is irritating is that people like PCSO’s, Cadet Instructors, Prison Officers, Police Officers etc, strut around wearing these medals when ex-service who had to endure arduous conditions year in year out, spending long periods of time away from family, loved ones and friends to be looked over and made to feel like a second class citizen. Its bad enough trying to adjust to civilian life and work with people who in a lot of cases resent you, don’t understand you and make comments about PTSD and that all servicemen are mental cases. So gives what we are due and make us feel proud of servicing our country.
Fully agree that this proposal should cover Silver, Gold and Diamond Jubilee medals. If costs are an issue I'd even be prepared to pay for them.
All Medals should be issued to past and present service personnel, who qualify, regardless of whether the government likes it or not.
Totally agree. Was refused a silver jubilee medal as only certain amount given to each station!!!! Just happens a WRAF in for less than a month for one!!??
WE SHOULD GET IT WITHOUT THE B ,WHEN YOU SEE CADETS AND POLICE ECT GET
I don't have anything tangible to mark my 4 years in the WRAF, I would love to have at least one commemorative medal to give my grandchildren.
I served the Military for 22 years of the Her Majesty's Reign. Not 5 or 6 years. It would be nice if powers to be would be fair and give the Diamond Jubilee Medal to those who really deserve it, that's all serving members during the Queens Reign.
