“ Keeping them under British rule ”
I saw many in the Falkland, during the conflict, suffering for many reasons.
Although in my 60's now, I would do the same again to keep these remote islands BRITISH.

I am having trouble posting. Hope this one doesn't Go walk about. After losing my husband in the Ireland conflict in 1981. On the third anniversary of liberation, I had the opportunity to purchase shares of RIDGE CAMP EAST FALKLAND 50 acres. I can if I wish plant a tree or place a plaque, raise the Union Jack of GREAT BRITAIN and wander freely within the boundaries. I also purchased some for my three children to pass down to future generations. It is an historical certificate none transferable. People must never forget what our lads went through along with the Falkland people. I hope there is continued peace and that they will not try the same thing again. Dee Campbell-Coombe. RIP

If we lose the Falkland Islands it will be yet another kick in the teeth, by the politicians, to the servicemen of all branch who fought and those who died, not to mention the Islands and all the families.

Having read ALL the comments, it is very sad that this subject could ever raise its ugly head, Once upon a time, there were politicians at Westminster who were strong, supportive of our armed forces, now all we have are wimps who only seem to care about other small matters, their pay rises, save money, Our forces are at the bottom of the list when it comes to money. We could still give Argentina a bloody nose
I for one would like to say that I went in 82 and saw first hand the sacrifice made by my brave comrades in arms. I was also present at Marchwood when we repatriated our fallen brothers. I for one am vehemently opposed to any actions that will give back the islands that we fought for. The islanders wanted, and needed our help in taking back the islands, and we sacrificed so much to do so. To relinquish them to a country that only wants them for what they can give is appalling. The "no necks" who reckon that we should give them are snow flakes who should know better. History has shown that, if you try to take something from us that doesn't belong to you, we will move heaven and earth to stop you. Be aware, and be very afraid of the backlash that will happen should anyone try to defame our forces, especially those who have fallen in the line of duty. The islands are British and will always be British. Proud to serve, proud to be a soldier, and immensely proud to identify with all who have and are serving. English by birth, British by nation, and a staunch supporter of all things FI.

Falklands 37 years on
History is made in many forms
Not known to one and all
Some of the facts are documented
Others older persons recall
A conflict that is ever in my mind
Well past my Service time
When the biggest Armada since World War 2
Left the U K shores for the South Atlantic clime
To thwart the claim by Argentina
To seize a Sovereign Isle
That was the task of the British Military force
Carried out in their own inimitable style
But many men suffered and many men died
In the Falklands all those years ago
And many were mentally wounded
The scars of their wounds never show
For the damage to them was buried deep
In their souls and in their mind
With an ever constant reminder
Of the colleagues they left behind
The horror of battle the noise and the smell
For the survivors is with them yet
So let's bow our heads and remember them all
Our heroes we must never forget.
As we go about our everyday chores
How many would stand and think of the cost
Of that tragic conflict in the South Atlantic
Where all those young lives were lost.

This present day UK Goverment could not care a jot about land not physical joined to main land uK, They will let the Falklands, Gibraltar, and even the isle of white go, as long as they hang onto Shetland Isles, I did 18 moths up there, voluntered and really enjoyed the peace and quiet walking up there.
We went we all did our duty over those weeks. my fellow marines that were based on the island when the argies invaded (I believe 35 in total) put up one hell of a defence and gave them a bloody nose with no deaths. Then we the task force left and completed the job. The government has lost all respect for the armed forces until they need us.
I salute all who took part and will never forget our fallen even when politicians do.
