Over the last couple of days lumps of foam rubber have been appearing all over the flat and I have been at a loss to work out where they were coming from. This morning the mystery was solved as I caught Barney taking chunks out of the base of his corduroy bed. Somehow he had managed to get the zip undone and get at the underneath........ There's never a dull moment here at Chez Forbes these days!
Recently one of you ladies posted about having Cataract treatment and although i have trolled through the posts i cannot find it. as my wife Gwyneth is having trouble with her eyes she has been diagnosed with same. problem is she has had conflicting reports from "Vision Express" and another optician. would be grateful for any advice. I wonder if it better if i sent her privately or would i just be wasting my money and time plus causing her some pain Regards to you both J.D.
Thanks for your prompt and useful advice. one thing more is it painful ? if so how long for ?
He did a first-class job, I can read without glasses now so it was a pretty good deal all round.
If you are not squeamish.. you can watch a video on you tube of the op
I went to my optician and that started a sequence of visits to Doctor, Optician, followed by a series of visits to various consultants in different locations. None of them agreed with any of the others. I had/didn't have etc MD - it was wet/dry/yes/no until I was sick of trailing about. One effect was that straight lines (door edges - window ledges etc all appeared wavy. In addition my left eye had a weird blind spot so when reading a line of print seemed to have a hole in it. Not a blur, fuzzy or anything like that but a complete absence of anything there. All subsequent visits on the merry go round produced the same result - no one knew what was wrong or could it be cured or what.
Then I ended up at the local hospital in Oldham where I saw a woman who was rated the top consultant in the North West. She saw things no one else had but I have no idea what she was going on about. Then she said she'd like to see what was going on behind the eye for eyes are apparently part of the brain. She said it would be interesting to know and would I go and sit on a chair in the next corridor and a nurse would come for me and explain what would happen.
I followed the directions, to the left to the end of the corridor, turn left, see the two chairs and sit and wait. Then a plumpish nurse appeared and took me into another room. It was when she got to the bit where she said 'at this point you have an injection and I must explain that it can kill you - but don't worry - it doesn't happen very often'. She must have been deafened by the slamming of the door as I left.
I wasn't convinced by anything I'd seen or heard so just carried on regardless.
Oddly enough over the years since then the wavy lines have lessened in waviness, the blind spot has disappeared and, although my left eye would not be enough for driving on its own it has enough vision that I do not need to declare it to the DVLA saying I am partly sighted.
MD is when the Macula at the back of your eye starts to have blood vessels bursting. If 'Dry' then it develops slowly as I said but if wet the process can simply carry on at such a speed that blindness results. It can of course take weeks or months for that to happen.
The opticians we go to has one man who seems to know what he is doing and after hearing my tale said that I was very lucky. His reading of the situation is that I must have had the wet type but that it had simply burned itself out in a very localised spot.
Do I feel lucky? Just thankful that it has never gone worse and that it only got as far as it did.
Pamela I was May Queen in 1954 I will have to find a photo.
I have just received a letter telling me I will be 25p a week richer in two weeks time when I am 80, dont think the amount has ever changed over the years. Not sure what I will spend it on!!!
