Golly, it's been over ten years since her rebuild and when I last sailed, she no longer carries a tops'l jackyard where, to furl the pesky sail, you stood on the cross trees, fighting a ten foot long piece of timber and a thousand sq ft. of canvas, to lash them first together and then both to the topmast. A procedure carried out when the wind becomes too strong to carry the sail! No ratlines either, so nobody goes aloft. Seems you can't get the crew these days. Cheers, Syd.

Well, I know that you were injured, so I can only sympathise and trust that the knee has gone down and mobility gone up. Cant help wondering about your local authority. I suppose living in a city makes a big difference, but out here in the sticks where homes are far more likely to have a chainsaw than a bike, there might well have been a bit of nocturnal activity, followed by a phone call to the L.A. from "a concerned passer-by" to the effect that a tree was down, blocking the road and what was the council going to do about it! Either that, or the tree might have simply disappeared and none the wiser. "Tree, tree?" "Ooo 'arh, 'Oi mind thur wur a tree somewheres at one toime." Perhaps: "Well that do look like a stump to 'oi, but there baint bin no tree fer yurz, 'oi rekn." Of course, folk in Somerset are known for being a bit rebellious. The Pitchfork Rebellion is still celebrated, though I don't think anybody thinks much of the Duke of Monmouth. Cheers, Syd.ps: No, I haven't owned a chain saw for fifteen years.
Hi everybody.
First of all Vicky - I went as arranged and saw a doctor who was less than polite but the upshot is just that my knee will eventually recover although no firm time scale. If it doesn't then I'll try for an appointment at our GPs rather than the Walk In Centre. Things are improving and I have finished the new course of anti-biotics which I asked for in the first place.
Syd,
You are right old boy I do seem to be heading on a self-inflicted course of destruction. Must be my age! At least my complaint to our local MP has borne some response. I got a letter from the House of Commons where Madam told me that the local Council will be carrying out a crown clean on the afore-mentioned overgrown weed. Not the result I had hoped for but at least something which ought to have been done several years ago and which I have requested more than once. The ridiculous last paragraph of the letter states a direct quote from the department concerned with the care of trees within the borough as follows:-
'Please be aware that highway trees such as this provide considerable social, economic and environmental benefits to their surrounding area. For this reason the Council operate to very strict guidelines as to when they can be pruned or removed.'
I would love to know what these benefits might be - can't think of one in any of those categories except perhaps changing carbon dioxide to oxygen thereby reducing the noxious fumes from traffic!
Ah well - can't win 'em all can you?

Hi Pamela, just waiting to hear that you are settled into your new home. Wishing you peace and happiness always and an endless supply of Gin (lol). Love, Kim xx
Morning everyone, sunshine at last.
We had two more viewings last week but no buyers yet apart from the original one who cant move just yet. i just want things to happen so we can get the one we want and i can have an easier life with a bit of spare cash in the bank.
Craig is at the hospital this week to find out if he can leave his boot off now, mind you i think he might have trouble getting used to walking again as he has two screws in his big toe and four more in his foot.
Have a good day everyone, we are off to the dentist shortly for a check up.

Good Morning Vicky - we have some sunshine today too, not much but enough to cheer things up !!
Sorry to hear that your house move is stuck at the moment - perhaps the original buyer will still come up trumps, keeping my fingers crossed.
I wish Craig all the best with his foot - apart from anything else I imagine it will be pretty weak after doing nothing for a while.
Good luck at the dentist !!

Hello Everyone - we seem to be a bit thin on the ground at the moment so hope everyone is safe and well. Had hoped to hear by now that our Pamela is happy and settled in her new home.
Goodnight dear friends and take care of yourselves and each other.

Hi Kim and everyone - I have been waiting to hear from Pamela but it may be that she has to wait for her son to visit to set up her wifi. It can be a nuisance at times. I suppose it depends on who you are using. I've just changed to fibre but it won't be coming on line until the 16th of this month. I happened to mention it a few days ago to Connie who immediately made a note of the date and said she'd come over and sort it for me. Fine by me! What are grandchildren for if not to get them to do the awkward jobs for us!
Vicky - thanks again for the comments about those photos on Facebook. There were quite a lot of comments on the original post about young Alfie having music in his genes. That is absolutely right - Patricia's Dad took piano lessons up to final Exams but money wasn't available to sit them - going back a long way here but he did teach and was a really great pianist. He played for Arthur Askey at one time but most people today won't have heard of him. My Dad could play piano by ear - any tune he heard or knew in any key you wanted. I learned guitar by asking questions of guitarists, taught our two boys their first chords then stood back as they left me standing. Gary has taught Connie so that's four generations already. I'm trying to post some photos on here but Connie takes them on a mobile camera with a massive capacity and I am struggling to get them downloaded and small enough to repost on here. If I manage it you'll see them in the next day or two.
Take care everyone - keep calm and carry on and don't go near anyone who is sneezing.

Hi everyone,we are still waiting to get a buyer fir our house as our original one still cant proceed because of his protracted divorce. I just feel as if we are in limbo and if we cant get a buyer soon the bungalow we want will be going back on the market. Its a minefield but I know we will benefit in the long run..In the meantime the garden is springing in to life. We have tadpoles in the pond and Ian has cut the grass. We cant even plan any breaks in the van.
Hope everyone stays welk. A friend of mine is really worried as he immune system is virtually nil.She takes antibiotics every winter for six months and avoids crowds and has all her shopping delivered. She also has fibromyalgia and polymyalgia but a more cheerful person you wilk ever meet.

Hi Vicky, had lots of problems with this site today in trying to gain access but looks like it's sorted now. So sorry to hear that you are still having problems with your house buyer - just hope you don't lose the bungalow you want. You are right, these things are always a bit of a minefield.
Take care and stay well. Your friend sounds like a real 'fighter' and I wish her well.
ps - still a problem with Mailbox !!

I hope everyone is ok and coping with getting shopping etc. Our granddaughter has postponed her wedding, it was to have taken place in May but is now arranged for September so hopefully we will all be able to go then.
I feel the need for a large G&T.

Hi Vicky - I am coping with shopping and stuff OK at the moment. Such a shame that your grand-daughter feels she had to postpone her wedding, what a bugga it all is. I am supposed to be going to a wedding on 1st May - my grand-daughter's best friend for whom she is being a bridesmaid. Can't imagine that one being re-arranged so I will just have to give it a miss !!
You wont have to drink alone, Vicky, 'cos I am about to pour extra large ones OK ? (bit early but I really don't care what time of the day it is!!).
Stay safe and keep well everyone.

Hi everyone. The wanderer has returned! I will be back to tell you of my travels as soon as I have cleared out my e-mails...…. about 400 of them!!
Welcome back, Pamela, good to see you again. Vicky and I were about to share a couple of very large G&Ts so do join us by way of celebration.
Thanks, Kim, a large G & T sounds like a good plan!
I moved over here around lunchtime on the 26th Feb. Martin, one of the chefs at Ingersley Court made me up a large packed lunch to see me through the afternoon. I was really pleased with the flat. When I first saw it it looked dreadful but the decorator did a great job and now it has cream walls and a dark blue carpet with a pile so deep it is like walking on clouds. All the furniture and furnishings that I chose on-line have come together wonderfully well and everyone says how lovely it looks.
Terry, the cream reclining chair with matching footstool is being delivered tomorrow and I hope that the second armchair will be arriving shortly afterwards. As soon as it does I will let you know how to find me and then you, Patricia and Connie can all come round for tea and biscuits.
Thank you everyone who sent me good wishes for happiness in my new home. xxx

Well my G&T might have to be without the tonic soon as this was one of the items missing from my online delivery yesterday, everyone must be stocking up. Eggs are virtually non existent as well, hope we have to go back to powdered egg!!. Take care everyone.
I am getting more than cross with this obvious panic buying, Vicky - it simply isn't necessary, just pure greed and selfishness!!!!!
Hi Pamela - we're getting closer. Hope we all avoid the Corona bug. As to panic buying we had to search for baby oaty porridge with bananas for little Alfie last week because Connie couldn't find any. Got it locally.

It's been a real cream cracker of a day today. The plan was for my youngest son, Andrew, to pick me up at 9-30am and take me to sign some papers at my solicitors and then on to the bank to open an account for my pension to be paid into.
First of all Andrew arrived with my shopping. Every week Andrew works overnight in Manchester, finishes at 6am and then arrives at Tesco in Macclesfield at 7am and picks up the shopping. This morning he arrived at Tesco to find a normally empty carpark full, about 20 people lining up at each checkout and the shelves practically empty! At the checkout the man in front of him was buying 3 packs of 12 toilet rolls.
Needless to say my shopping list was much depleted. I have enough ingredients for 4 proper breakfasts, the other 3 days will have to be toast and marmalade and 8 meals, but 4 of those will be Cornish pasties!
The appointment with the solicitor has been postponed as I received an e-mail sending apologies but telling me that they would all be working from home until further notice and they would contact me to rearrange the appointment.
We arrived at the bank to be told that new accounts could now only be opened by appointment and I have been given the tel. number of a lady called Karen to ring on Monday morning.

Hi Syd, your version of the porridge sounds very appetising. Generally we are managing to get enough food in but it's gone a bit more difficult due to all the idiots taking more than they need. Makes you think it would serve them right if it all rots. It's the old and young who will suffer most and the NHS workers who can't get to the shops because of their shifts. What was that phrase again 'Keep calm and carry on'.
Pamela - you certainly are having a hard time with all that to contend with. Will your carers be able to help you out by getting you some shopping? Deallng with solicitors who are working from home has got to be a hard one to get over when it comes to signing documents because many require someone to be present to observe the conditions on many occasions. It's the same with banks I suppose. Can't say much more than hope all works out and very soon.
For now - hope to see you soon XX

So sorry for your problems today . I have managed to get delivery slots for first two weeks in April but nothing for next week so will have to go to Tesco. Will go at the over 70 slot, trouble is they open long before this and by the time I get there the shelves will be empty!!! I cant get eggs anywhere. Royal mail didnt leave a parcel today so I have to go and pick it up which I am not happy about especially if it is a mothers day present. Neighbours were at home at the time as well. Had to call off a visit to son tomorrow which was disappointing. Large G&Ts all round are called for. Cheers.
Hi Everyone - what a load of problems this virus is causing!! Just hope you are all coping as best you can but right now Vicky has the best idea so let's all have a huge G&T (or whatever your preferred tipple may be) to cheer ourselves up. Don't let your glass get empty, I will be around to top you up !!!!!! Perhaps a big group hug is in order too (or is that too risky!!!??).

Hi Pamela,
That has made me feel better and having a neighbour like that is wonderful and very welcome for you I am sure. You still have the solicitors and bank to sort out though haven't you so how are things going on with those two issues?
We have been lucky because our daughter had managed to get some potatoes and let us have a bag yesterday plus a box of large size tissues. We have a post office cum small shop about a hundred yards away and I got some muffins today but there wasn't a loaf in sight.
Just think - we're often sorting out the world's problems in this thread and now we're down to a packet of muffins!
This virus matter is becoming more and more serious now and apparently the French are already requiring a reason to leave their houses? Erm - Starvation?
Patricia has left the vacuuming until tomorrow to have something to do and I cleaned the car today. Tomorrow - oh I expect I'll find something to do!!!!
I'll be in touch soon - take care and I mean everyone - Bye for now.

Terry I managed to get some shopping today but no potatoes. Could only buy 6 eggs so I sent Ian in to get six more. I am ok now until next Wednesday when I get a Tesco delivery. At a village in New Forest a Tesco man was doing a delivery and while he was at a house thieves stole the rest of his orders so the next 2 houses got a nothing.

Hello Vicky - what a nasty thing to do - steal the orders from a Tesco van, I suppose it's the way things are going now unfortunately.
Just love the G&T tanker, perfect for us ladies.
Hi Pamela - no I haven't received anything personally from Big Brother but I suppose he thinks that the overall news is enough to get the message across!!
Hope everyone is managing to stay free of the 'nasties', take care.

I have had a message repeatedly about staying indoors while doing a quick check for personal messages on my phone. Our family members are rallying round and our granddaughters are especially busy wanting to know if we need anything. At the moment we are okay with the main problem being bread and milk. I use a long life type of milk which is lactose free because of my diabetes but even that has been swept off the shelves.
I am now going to set up Skype to be able to chat better over the net instead of typing everything. I had a Skype account years ago but let it lapse so I have no idea of the password I used.
Pamela, under the circumstances it may be better to postpone my visit - it's a shame really - can you set up Skype so we could at least see each other and that goes for everyone. No early morning calls please - I'm not presentable until my face settles down around lunch time!
Bye for now - take care!

I assumed I got the e-mail because I came in that top band of most vulnerable people i.e. over 70 with underlying health problems and I thought that there must be many other people on FR who also came in that category.

John we could do with a service like that. I try to shop online but it is impossible to get a slot at present. I have set up most things online.
Pamela although I am over 70 well 80 this year I dont have any underlying health issues. My friend has a shot immune system along with fybromyalgia and polymyalgia, she self isolates every year from October to March but this year is going to be in isolation a lot longer. The Dr told her if she doesnt stick to it to the letter she will die. She even has a notice on her gate telling people not to enter, which does have lots of support in the village.

I've now set up Skype - took a little while but already used it to check on older Granddughter Connie to see how she and little Alfie are doing. Lovely clear picture although Alfie was a bit puzzled but he's only just eight months old. He's doing very well and we saw him on Sunday trying to get down from the settee because he wants to start walking. Not quite ready for it yet though.
Anyway as I said if anyone else wants to set it up - or if you already have it - it's nice to see and hear as well as typing messages to each other.
Bye for now all!
