I've been wondering!!!!
The originators have known that this would never have happened if it was said openly and that is why it has been sold first as a trading group with the 'harmonisation' following by stealth when it is almost too late to get out. Luckily Cameron gave us a vote thinking that we wouldn't vote to leave. The true facts are now out by Juncker's speech and if that doesn't convince the Remainers then nothing will. The words trees, see, for, can't, the, and the woods come to mind. I've no doubt that we'll still have the members of that club on here - unbelievable.
wondering if anyone has had to call out Rescue / Breakdown for their car recently. My A.A. subscription last year was £ 123. and because i had to call them out to start my car after i let my battery go flat ( left side lights on overnight ) this year they want £215. After looking on line at various Company's, the one that caught my eye was "Auto Aid" which seem to fit the bill in so many ways and the Feedback is excellent. Wonder if any Members have any experience with this firm. I know the cheapest can be often not be the best as i was with Green Flag one year and only required them once and they kept me waiting nearly four hours on a busy Motorway. So any advice / suggestions welcome.
Diane Abbott just said she wants to BAN WHITE CANDIDATES from standing in certain elections
This may be the sort of headline that you have to read four or five times before it truly sinks in, but the Shadow Home Secretary and Labour MP Diane Abbott has told a gathering in Brighton that Labour should start to build ‘all-black’ shortlists of candidates for local elections.
While speaking to a gathering called The World Transformed, which was an event organised in Brighton by the left-wing activist group Momentum ahead of the Labour Conference in Brighton, Abbott said that only fielding black candidates in certain constituencies would allow more MPs from ethnic minorities to enter the House of Commons.
According to a report that has appeared on Buzzfeed News, Abbott said:
“We need to revisit the campaign for all-black shortlists.”
“It did have a transformative effect on getting women into parliament but we need to pay attention to the fact that all-women shortlists have not necessarily worked for black and ethnic minority women.”
“If you want to engage with black and minority voters you have to start talking about the things they are talking about, you have to start holding events and reaching out to them.”
It is a well-known fact that Ms Abbott has said a lot of controversial things in her time coming from her point of view as a staunch campaigner for racial equality, but surely this has to be one of her most divisive comments to date.
The potential for it to do more harm than good is perfectly clear, especially as ‘all-black’ is just another way of saying ‘no-white,’ no matter which way you look at it.
How on earth can anyone promote racial equality by prioritising one ethnic background over another, the exact concept that so many people including Abbott have spent many years trying to fight against.
You simply cannot fight discrimination with discrimination – in the long-term it has the potential to proverbially ‘bite you in the ass.’
However, it has now become abundantly clear that attacking Diane Abbott in any way is a big no-no, so perhaps she has become emboldened by this to just make more and more outrageous statements of this nature.
If she wants to complain about people making nasty, racist comments towards her (which are deplorable no matter what the justification given may be), surely she needs to avoid making comments like this.
As usual a well constructed post and it is in my view impossible to contradict you because the facts speak for themselves. The earlier efforts to get more women into Parliament worked as they had to do. All Black selection lists would do the same but neither of these steps are a valid argument to initiate them or to carry them on.
My view is that the best person for the job gets it. What is needed more than selective appointments is to remove the apathy in certain quarters which has been caused for many reasons. Men were always the majority of breadwinners, they did most of the fighting, women had the children and looked after the home while this was going on.
We have the assumption from black people that they would not stand a chance in becoming MPs and to an extent this is true. The overriding factor is simply that change cannot come about overnight. Like everything else it is an evolutionary process. Instead of touting for all black short lists Diane Abbott ought to be trying to create an incentive to get them to put themselves forward.
Selective appointments on the basis of skin colour or gender are for me a total anathema.
As to Abbott's blatant racism which she has displayed for many years it is time for her to be brought to heel. For a woman who is Shadow Home Secretary she ought not to be making that kind of comment. I made a remark to a friend when Corbyn chose her that if she were ever to reach that office the only people she would let in would be black and whites would be banned en bloc.
She is a disgrace to Parliament, her gender, her position and shows little sign of intelligence at times or an ability to master a brief or even do simple mathematical calculations. It is high time as you say that she was taken to task and I wonder why, as do many, how she gets away with it. It's not enough to simply sit back and say 'Oh that's Dianne Abbott for you'. Time for a halt to her idiocy and outright bias.
Latest example is during the week a Motorist driving down the M.5. though Gloucestershire was reported to be threatening other motorists with a hand gun. The Police followed / pursued him for it seems approx. 50 miles before diverting him off at junction 19 to Portishead, a place and road i know very well. there they opened fire and killed him. Now there may be a very good reason for not stopping him earlier, i do know that Portishead has only one road leading in or out. As soon as the Police announced this was not "Terrorist related" the Media, including my local B.B.C. and I.T.V. evening News could not seem to stop repeating That this man was shot 10 times. With any shooting the Police have various enquiries into it and it would be so much better if the media could just wait for the facts. but that does not sell newspapers. This mans identity or his reasons for his actions are unknowm at the present time but he certainly was not coming down to the West Country on a sight seeing tour.
It is a fact that sadly these days if there is any kind of explosions or gunshots it is usually connected to extremists who will kill or maim innocent men, women and children, a prime example was the recent Manchester Arena atrocity and the incident on Londonn Bridge where again people were mown at random. No one questioned the tactics used by the Police as later Seven people were stabbed and 48 wounded in a nearby Bar.
The attackers were wearing , what turned out to be fake bomb vests and screaming "This is for Allah". The Police put their lives on the line that night
not for the first time and i don't recall the Press etc. criticising them on that occasion. Back to the incident on the M.5 Motorway midweek the public statement that it was not to do with Terrorism was to allay public fears, whih i am sure it did.
The days of P.C. 49 and Dixon of Dock Green are long gone and we are fortunate to have someone to stand between us and Them.
Whether this story is true or not, it is not only extremely bad manners but what does this Fat, mediocre talented actress hope to gain from this ?. Apart from some much needed publicity.
As for me - my right eye has improved for the second year running but my left is now virtually useless for reading although I can see plenty at distance and the farther away the better. The optician says everything in the left eye is very clear but for some reason it doesn't work. Makes you think! At least I can pass the number plate test.
Sorry to hear that you are having problems with Alan and his Parkinsons. I hope that all goes well at his check up for the cataracts. I am going through a bit of a bad patch with my ME at the moment, just so utterly exhausted all the time I can hardly keep my eyes open, also having problems with my breathing so I just get through one day at a time. As you say, we just have to get on with it. Take care.x
I mentioned this thing a few weeks ago concrning that quite a few Members do not seem to contribute many posts anymore. One reason could be that unless one clicks on the box at the top of the page "Recent Comments " ( See More ) it is possible to miss a post. at certain times the post takes a while to appear and then just the quite often they can miss they can opposite. unless someone is looking in on a regular basis the post has gone. Might seem like Gobbledy Gookthe way i've put it but i do wish we had reverted to the original way.
Sorry to hear you are not feeling well Bonny Lass
Might i suggest a body rub and massage from Vice Admiral John Richards Regards J.D.
Also from reading on line this is happening through out the country.
We lived in Spain for nearly 10 years and as a Foreigner i could not imagine that i could not only live there, set up a drugs making operation et.. employ illegal labour and distribute the finished product without the police etc. finding out.
For the last week or so the Media, Press , T.V. News have been constantly brimming with articles, photos, interviews etc. from famous and not so famous female Film Stars concerning the behaviour of fHarvey Weinstien the Hollywood Producer and Film director and his sexual advances to them. Whilst i do not condone this for a moment, what i do find strange is that this has never been made public before in all that time even though there are many famous stars who could have revealed this behaviour long after they were successful.
These allegations span over the last 20 years.
P.s. On every page in the Press there has been Pictures of Stars / Starlets posing with him, sometimes more than one so don't tell me that they were not trying to further their careers.
