I've been wondering!!!!
It was good to see the Red Arrows, this morning,
BUT, it is a DISGRACE that so many people do not know which way up our UNION FLAG should be flown, I think it is disrespectful to this country and all that it stands for, I hope everyone on this site knows the right way up it should be flown, and I hope they will tell all their family and friends, then perhaps one day every Union Flag will be flown correctly for what it is flying for at the time be it Commemorations,Celebrations etc. or Distress.
The thread in question was called 'However' and was just about the funniest ever on FR and everyone got the joke aspect except Tim Heyhoe and Syd Smith. Like I say though 'Ah well - can't win 'em all can you?'.
As I have said I may regret it. Time will tell.
I will answer you but I want to take my time to think through what I wish to say. I apologise for the delay but we have had a series of power cuts in the area over the last few days and I have no idea why. They often happen when the phone network I am on decides to make alterations which for some reason seems to upset the proverbial and we are left in darkness or unable to access either landline or internet.
For the moment adios,
Once again I apologise for the delay. It's been a very odd time this last couple of days, nothing but upsets and interruptions but all seems to have settled down now.
I'm not answering your post in strict order of what came first etc. but here goes. I know that our old friend Geordie was on shortly before, and up to Christmas without paying, but he now seems to have gone walkabout again. There isn't a great number of people still on who were regulars when things were much livelier and generally threads are not well supported. It may have something to do with my projected departure but there are many factors involved.
With regard to John Raymond and his posts I must agree with you in the way you summed him up. A thorn in the flesh at times but he and I both offered details of our musical side and listened to the offerings and appreciated them as fellow musicians. He did have a bone to pick with me even near the end and we were still at it when he became too ill to carry on. I will always regret not sending him a final post in an attempt to settle any stray issues but he had had a couple of lapses in posting so I didn't know the last one would be his final offering. Maybe I could have found the words to ease his final moments. I did admire his courage - a true Scot indeed.
When his wife told us of his death I sent her a long message and did my best to in some way console her by passing on what I think were the general feelings of most of us which were pretty close to what you have said about him.
As to the bit about myself I can only say that I am flattered to read your view of me and my offerings. Trust me Don, everything you said I can honestly return in full for I feel the same way about you. I am sure you will recall that after one of your absences, when, if I remember correctly you said you were going off touring, I opened a thread called 'Don Knight, wherefore art thou?'.
Your contributions were greatly missed and it was lovely to see you return for a while. We always seemed to have an affinity and I often felt that either one of us could answer a post in the same manner as the other. We teamed up well against a few Philistines together with people like Pamela and JD and I think generally got the better of them - the Philistines of course.
I think I have your Email address somewhere so I can always give you a call when I feel like a chat.
May I also wish a very peaceful and pleasant life for you and your family, take care Don, all my best wishes,
Thanks for the message - as you say there will always be another time on the future to swap greetings and such. Thanks for the info on the 'However' thread. It was an eye opener looking back to see the names of the contributors and the posts, some of which were quite awesome. I couldn't see more than the first three pages but it brought back a load of memories.
Take care, best wishes,
