So I retired. It takes a while if youve had two careers to realise that you no longer had to be anywhere at a specific time, so I took to leaving my watch off! It worked! It took a year but it worked. I am, however, busier now than Ive ever been, because of total involvement with our grandkids. I see them every day, since the day they were born, and the oldest is now 17. The two youngest come to me every day after school, and the two eldest follow. They come in, throw the school bags in the hall, and empty the fridge and the biscuit tin.. I love the the way they take you for granted, because it is really what all grandparents want. For them to know that youll always be there for them. Because my wife still works, because its what she wants to do, I do most of the cooking, so I not only have grandkids taking over my computer and the Sky remote, but Im out in the kitchen! There are two rosters on our fridge door, one for my daughters nursing duties, and the other for places and things I have to to do when shes not here. On just one day this week, I drive a 4th Former to her hockey practices, before school, one day at 0700 and another at 0630. On that same day, I sometimes have to then see the two younger ones off to school if Mum is not there, and as she is sleeping after a night duty I see them when they come home, and take them to their hockey practice and Flippaball [a very junior version of waterpolo] at the local pool, then come back home with them and continue cooking. I tell you, I have absolutely no problem sleeping!
