I served on H.M.S.Whitesandbay 1952/1953 Korean patrols.
just glad i never had to undergo such rough passage on anaircraft carrier ! bad enough being on three troopers, and being caught in a big storm on the empire hallodale whilst enroute thru the china sea to pusan oct/ nov 1950. i have never liked the sea, much less having to being on a ship....
I agree entirely. It's a fascinating experience. I did the same thing in 52 heading for the Korean stoush in Glory. We were lead ship and had a (rude word) great searchlight thingie on the flight deck just inboard of our solitary port side booster. We were followed by an enormous French Ocean...

Total Agreement John, I have a friend in New Zealand who was on the convoys to Russia. Coming back to wearing a hat, Get your' at on you naughty
Airman, 252 and Jankers for you lad.
I don't wear a hat but if I did I would take it off to any Sailor, Merchant or Royal navy for their bravery going out on to the Ocean regardless of conditions or what they might meet. I could not do it for all the Tea in China. In Wartime or Peacetime I have never heard of a Tar not doing his...
