The Wanaka Lake Willow Tree If you were asked to describe The scene before you now I think you might be tempted to close your eyes And rub a thoughtful brow An image of idyllic beauty Wonderfully here on display It’s Lake Wanaka Willow in New Zealand Near Dunedin many miles away The fourth largest Lake in the area Extensive and 300 metres deep Yet the roots of the tree sometimes on dry land As the waters slowly seep Which is when the Willow might sustain damage From the tourists visiting there And because of so much time beneath water There’s little growth to help the tree repair The angry sky above Reflected in the water below The hills that guard the background The Golden Trees of Autumn Enhance this wonderful show But as I close the page now The last image that I see Could that be a Reindeer antlers raised in the water Oh! No it’s the Wanaka Willow tree Dennis Shrubshall 5th March 2021

Thatched Cottage The Englishman’s Home is his Castle Something I’ve often heard folks say It certainly applied in times past And is very much the same today A couple work hard for a home like this Though sometimes difficult it may seem A nice little cottage in the country For many would be a mere dream Thatched cottages may have been a mode from the past But still very popular today Perhaps half dozen or more in a village In the Cotswolds or Gloucester I’d say The picturesque Thatch sets the scene for the roof With an Eyebrow Window below Always a lovely show of Shrubs and Flowers Which only an avid gardener would know The lawn and stone wall form the terrace With a gate to the lawn and the garden Where perhaps some vegetables they will grow To sum it up and given the chance Do you think the offer you would resist Of a delightful retirement home in the country Or would the opportunity be later missed. Hi Bob. Looks as though the site is begining to come together again. Can't help wishing that it was for ex-service personnel only, but there we go. Had our first jabs back in January, delivered by two dinky young RN nurses up from Portsmouth to sort us out. Cheers, Syd.

I am really sorry but I will have have to reorganise the date for the Hereford 319 entry ( plus others) reunion to Oct 8 2021, due to COVID restrictions. Let's hope we can get a team of guys and girls together to celebrate 50 years since we joined the Royal Air Force . All craft apprentices, plus service people we know, are welcome and please bring a guest or two. Let's hope by Oct the world is a much safer and better place. Best regards Peter Clinker (P8001333)

Whitby. When one thinks of Yorkshire It brings images of Peaks and Valleys and Dales But it’s steeped everywhere in History From Vikings, Poet Caedman, Herrings & Whales For Whitby was well renowned for fishing and mining The Abbey was built in the Seventh Cenury The ruins now remain on East Cliff today Later followed by a Monastery300 years later At Whitby “ white settlement” the Norse used to say Tourism started there in the Georgian period When a Railway connection was laid Showing Whitby to be more than a fishing port But the benefits to Tourism became displayed The Grade 2 listed piers each side of the River Esk Are the Gateway to the Harbour of fame An area used by Authors and T V directors A desirable venue of acclaim There’s a sandy beach each side of the river On the East one can walk the dog if you choose But on West beach there are donkey rides and beach huts And Deckchairs for hire and have a Snooze But the thing I remember about Whitby Is Heartbeat on the T V With Greengrass, Blaketon and David And The Royals Hospital by the Sea So I think the photographers have captured it all Whether by day or night They’ve captured all of the aspects With a truly spectacular sight Dennis Shrubshall 3rd March 2021

Moonlight Picture the scene at the lake if you will An image of tranquillity serene The water still and mirroring The reflection as now seen Emerging from a Cloudy sky A beautiful full moon Creating this romantic scene Which may be changing soon The trees set a ghostly image As we view them in the dark Standing there in the Moonlight Portraying them as stark Set against the hilly background But it could be anywhere As a perfect scenic memory Away from worry and care Dennis Shrubshall 4th March 2021

At the moment, I think Covid has taken priority. I doubt they will roll it out for maybe another 12 Months or When we get back to normal.
The last MOD update:
Update 27 April 2020 The Veterans’ recognition scheme has a 2 phase rollout. Phase 1 is complete; with Service leavers receiving a recognition card as part of the discharge process.
Phase 2 is to extend the scheme to existing veterans so that they can more quickly, easily and securely prove they served in the UK Armed Forces so they can access the services they need.
We had hoped to have this in place by the end of 2019, but due to the requirement to future-proof the scheme so that veterans can access a wider range of benefits, the need to safeguard against fraudulent use means, this process will take longer.
Information on how to apply will be released closer to the launch date. edited by Delhi_Spearman on 27/02/2021
